InfoMatoa, Merauke | The Government of South Papua officially conducted the blessing and inauguration of the Governor’s Office Building and the South Papua Regional House of Representatives (DPRP) at the Kawasan Terpadu Mandiri (KTM) Salor, Kurik District, Merauke, on Monday (January 5, 2026).
The ceremony was led by the Governor of South Papua, Apolo Safanpo, and attended by approximately 500 invited guests from government institutions, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the National Police (Polri), as well as religious leaders, traditional leaders, and community representatives.
Proceedings commenced with a traditional pig-slaughter ceremony performed by four customary leaders, reflecting respect for local wisdom and the cultural traditions of South Papua. This customary ritual symbolically marked the beginning of the blessing and inauguration of the provincial government center.
In his report, Head of the South Papua Office for Building, Infrastructure, and Area Development, Abdul Halil Kastella, stated that the construction of the Governor’s Office and DPRP buildings was implemented by the Ministry of Public Works through the Papua Regional Settlement Infrastructure Center (BPPW), with funding allocated from the 2024–2025 state budget. The project adopted a design-and-build approach to ensure efficiency in implementation while maintaining construction quality, and applied green building principles to promote sustainability and energy efficiency.
“The Governor’s Office and DPRP buildings were designed as representative and functional work facilities for government officials, with the objective of improving the effectiveness and quality of public services throughout South Papua,” he explained.
Following the project report, a formal handover ceremony and symbolic key transfer were conducted, after which the Governor delivered his address. In his remarks, Governor Apolo Safanpo expressed appreciation to the President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia, the House of Representatives (DPR RI), and the Ministry of Public Works for their continued support since the enactment of Law No. 14 of 2022 on the establishment of South Papua Province.
“The Governor’s Office, DPRP Office, MRP Office, official residences for officials, and apartment towers for civil servants are expected to function as centers of public service and engines of regional development. I call upon all civil servants to utilize these facilities with dedication, integrity, and a strong sense of responsibility in serving the people of South Papua,” the Governor stated.
The event continued with the signing of the inauguration plaque, ribbon cutting, and a religious blessing service, before concluding with a reception.
The South Papua Provincial Government Center at KTM Salor covers an area of approximately 152 hectares, accommodating the Governor’s Office, DPRP Office, MRP Office, regional government agencies (OPD), and supporting facilities. The inauguration represents a significant milestone in strengthening the institutional foundation of South Papua as a newly established autonomous province, while reaffirming the readiness of public service infrastructure in the southern Papua region.
