InfoMatoa, Mappi | The local government, together with relevant agencies, has conducted monitoring of the availability and prices of staple food commodities and fuel (BBM) ahead of the Christmas and New Year 2026 celebrations in Mappi Regency, Papua (22/12).
The availability of staple goods and fuel in Mappi Regency has been confirmed to be sufficient through the Christmas and New Year (Nataru) period. Key commodities such as rice, sugar, cooking oil, eggs, meat, fish, vegetables, as well as fuel remain available in the market, with prices generally stable.
Rice prices at Kepi Traditional Market vary, ranging from Rp 100,000 per 5 kilograms to Rp 930,000 per 50 kilograms, depending on the type and brand. Granulated sugar is sold at Rp 20,000 per kilogram, while cooking oil prices range from Rp 8,000 to Rp 105,000, depending on brand and packaging size.
For animal protein commodities, broiler chicken is priced between Rp 60,000 and Rp 75,000 per bird, while beef sells for Rp 160,000 per kilogram, with limited availability. Both marine and freshwater fish are generally sold at prices between Rp 40,000 and Rp 50,000 per kilogram, although some varieties have been noted as scarce.
Retail fuel prices are reported to be stable, at Rp 10,000 per liter for fuel and Rp 6,000 per liter for kerosene.
Despite overall stable prices, officers recorded shortages in several commodities, including beef, free-range chicken, duck eggs, as well as certain types of fish and fruit. These shortages are attributed to delays in supply deliveries, as sea-borne logistics shipments from Merauke Regency have not yet arrived.
The Mappi Regency Government stated that, to date, no significant price increases have been detected ahead of the Christmas and New Year holidays. However, if delays in vessels transporting staple goods persist, there is concern that shortages could worsen and potentially trigger price increases in the market.
